People are the Heart and Soul of CVIM
CVIM的故事
You see it in the CVIM logo – a person at the center of our heart, both held within it and holding it up. CVIM is a healthcare home for uninsured patients who have nowhere else to turn for care. A home built and maintained by generous donors and community partners. A home filled with loving, compassionate volunteer caregivers. Here are just some of their stories.

Terry’s Volunteer Story

Terry has been volunteering at CVIM for many years as an interpreter. A good friend of hers, and her son, both volunteered at CVIM in the past, and she was motivated to use her Spanish speaking skills in a volunteer capacity. She says “CVIM makes me feel very good because I feel busy and needed. I have found a sense of community at CVIM, where I am welcomed and appreciated as a member of the team.”
Joan’s Volunteer Story

Like many volunteers, Joan was introduced to CVIM through a friend and fellow volunteer. Joan is now a volunteer nurse here at CVIM. She says “I love working here and giving back. It makes me glad to see how well patients are cared for—and cared about. I am honored to be able to work at CVIM. Many of our patients are the invisible people in society who are struggling with the many burdens of poverty. I am often humbled by their strength and kindness. I always tell my friends that I’m the luckiest person in the world to be able to work at CVIM. The staff here consistently treats the patients with respect and dignity while providing excellent medical care. This is the kindest, most caring place I have ever worked.”
Bob and Carlene West

The Wests are ongoing supporters of CVIM, and they believe in our mission. “CVIM is able to provide so much health care on a volunteer basis that this allows such a very high percentage of every charitable dollar given to end up directly benefitting patients”, says Bob. “Carlene and I believe in CVIM’s mission and see that those involved with the inner workings are also committed to seeing this vision happen. We believe we are just like other donors in that we all want to see as much of our charitable dollars go towards that cause as much as possible. With all of the volunteer hours at CVIM, that clearly happens!”
Ellen and Peter Oetinger

“To us, it is about supporting very worthy local causes like CVIM. Ellen’s experience being intricately involved with the mission as a volunteer nurse for the last eight years has been very rewarding. What CVIM does to impact the lives of so many needing access to health care is inspirational – they need our help to be seen and heal. Observing first-hand how grateful they are for their care – that in itself is why we annually support CVIM as Harrison Society members, as well as, including CVIM in our long-term financial and estate planning.”
