Together We Heal
A Letter from Maureen, CVIM President & CEO

Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) provides free, high quality medical and dental care, behavioral health services, and medications for low-income, uninsured workers and their families.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, CVIM patients have been among the most vulnerable. During these unprecedented times, our Healthcare Center is open and serving the healthcare needs of our patients in new and creative ways. CVIM and our partners work together to provide:
- COVID-19 testing and treatment
- Clinical guidance and emotional support
- Vaccinations for our patients
CVIM is fully funded by philanthropy and staffed primarily by compassionate volunteers – both licensed clinical professionals and skilled support volunteers – providing healthcare, hope and healing. Our FY21 Impact Highlights showcase the work we have done in our community for our patients with the help of our generous supporters. Click here to watch our video version!

FY21 Impact Highlights
COVID-19 Response and Vaccination Update

The COVID-19 virus hit our shared community in March of 2020, and in March 2021, CVIM received the first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine at our healthcare center. Since then, we have vaccinated more than 1,382 people, and over 76% of our patients report being vaccinated, either by CVIM or elsewhere. Since the early days of the pandemic, our primary goal has been to help our patients navigate this crisis in good health. This includes outreach and education, understanding local health guidelines, access to COVID testing, treatment and vaccines, and supporting our patients’ ongoing needs for housing, food assistance, and employment. CVIM continues to work directly with our patients, our volunteers, and our community to protect everyone against COVID-19.

Patient Stories & Testimonials
“CVIM does everything possible for its patients. And just like the vaccine, CVIM gives me hope.” Teodoro, CVIM Patient

Jacinta, A CVIM Patient
Jacinta works as an office cleaner. The pandemic hit her income hard and she has been working fewer hours.
CVIM helps Jacinta manage her diabetes and mental health. Her personal care plan includes visits with our volunteer Endocrinologist and our bilingual Diabetes Care Coordinator, free diabetes medications, and behavioral health counseling. Jacinta has limited transportation options, so telehealth
appointments have been convenient and effective. She has lowered her A1C, a diabetes indicator, by over 4 points in the past year!
Jacinta says her health is a lot better since becoming a CVIM patient three years ago.
“I am very thankful to CVIM for the help. It is a blessing!”

Emma Jessie and Her Family
Emma Jessie, Maria, and Roger all received their COVID-19 vaccine on Friday at CVIM. As a family that experiences chronic health conditions such as diabetes and stroke recovery, getting the vaccine was very important to them. Their family also suffered great loss due to COVID-19, including a brother and a son, who they were unable to visit in the hospital due to the pandemic. Emma Jessie said that she was so grateful for all of the care that they have received over the years from CVIM, especially the care for her mother after her stroke. They were very thankful to be able to get the COVID-19 vaccine at CVIM.
