GKAS - Give Kids A Smile Day!

On Friday, December 2nd, a very successful and fun 2011 Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) Day was held at Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM). This event, sponsored by the Dental Society of Chester County and Delaware County served 33 children who were transported to CVIM for free dental checkups. According to Alberta Landis, CVIM VP of Dental Services, dentists and hygienists provided more than $12,000 worth of dental services during GKAS Day. Holiday Gift Giving

In this season of loving our friends and family through the age old practice of gift-giving, many generous folks look for places needing donations.  Here at CVIM we appreciate that spirit of giving and at the same time need to stay true to our mission of providing MEDICAL and DENTAL CARE.  So if you or others are looking to give clothing, food or other household items, please offer them to organizations that focus on supplying those particular needs to their clients.  What can you do to give a hand up to CVIM patients?

Independence Blue Cross recently created the Independence Blue Cross Foundation which seeks to transform health care through innovation in the Philadelphia region.  One of its targets is caring for the most vulnerable, with an initiative focused on helping the uninsured get quality health care.  CVIM was one of the fifteen clinics awarded grants this fall when they qualified as a “private, nonprofit health clinic that delivers quality, cost-effective care to people who are uninsured and underinsured – and would otherwise face financial, cultural, and linguistic barriers to obtaining health care”.
A grant of $100,000 from the Blue Safety Net was presented by Ms. Lorina Marshall-Blake, President of the IBC Foundation to CVIM President and CEO Maureen Tomoschuk to support ongoing provision of quality health care to Chester County patients in need.
