County Commissioners’ Proclamation on the Occasion of CVIM’s 10th Anniversary
Whereas, Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) opened its doors May 18, 1998 as the first community-based volunteer clinic of its kind in Southeastern Pennsylvania; and
Whereas, CVIM has served as the medical and dental home for more than 10,000 uninsured working poor adults and more than 3,000 children in Chester County since its opening; and
Whereas, The core staff of CVIM and more than 200 volunteer licensed healthcare professionals and community volunteers selflessly contribute more than 25,000 hours annually to provide culturally competent, dignified and compassionate care; and
Whereas, The staff and volunteers are dedicated to providing quality medical, dental and health education services for its staff, volunteers, health professional students and most specifically those who need it most—their patients; and
Whereas, The administration of CVIM, clinical staff, founders and volunteer Board members have worked diligently to cover its annual expenses 100% by philanthropic donations each and every year while successfully growing a fund for sustainability to secure its future as a leader in the provision of medical and dental care for the uninsured working poor; and
Whereas, CVIM staff has served as a resource for replication of the volunteer model in other communities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Wyoming, Oregon, Illinois, Louisiana, and Wisconsin;
Therefore, Be it resolved, that on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of Community Volunteers in Medicine, West Chester, PA, that the Chester County Commissioners recognize the significant primary care and public health services provided across the County during the past ten years; and
Be it further resolved, that the Chester County Commissioners congratulate the members of the CVIM Board of Trustees, the staff, volunteers and philanthropic donors in Celebrating a Decade of Hope and do hereby declare May 18, 2007 through May 17, 2008 the “Year of CVIM in Chester County”.
